This Blue Heron Battery LLC, DC (Direct Current) surge protection device or SPD functions as a transient voltage surge suppressor. Our DC surge protector / SPD helps provide overvoltage protection for your lithium battery BMS from an inverter capacitor induced surge on startup of the inverter. This commercial direct current surge protector also helps prevent damage from DC overvoltage that can be caused by lightning surge and other strong changes in electricity.
This surge suppression equipment device has a maximum amperage of 50 kA. Protection from surge is in the form of Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) technology. Metal Oxide Varistor circuits protect electrical equipment such as lithium BMS circuits from spikes in DC power.
Must be connected directly to the lithium battery DC positive and negative buses, plus a ground wire run to the Inverter ground post. The unit comes with 3 ft. leads in Red, Black and Green 10AWG to facilitate connection. Leads may be extended with the same gauge wire. The positive lead should have a 30A in line fuse at the positive bus connection; DO NOT use standard fuses as these are fast acting; USE a slow-blow (S) or timed-delay (T) fuse such as a “Maxi Slo-Blo 299 Series” type from Littelfuse.
